In April, Te Waka proudly hosted a delegation of international agents in the Waikato, showcasing the region as an exciting study destination with a high-quality lifestyle.
International education plays a crucial role in the growth of the Waikato economy and the vibrancy of the community. Prior to disruptions caused by the pandemic, it was estimated that international education contributed $280 million annually to the Waikato economy, supported over 3,000 jobs, and attracted students from over 80 nations.
Beyond the financial benefits, international students enrich our region by fostering diversity, building global connections, and growing talent pipelines. By welcoming students from around the world, the Waikato becomes a more diverse and vibrant place to live and learn.
Te Waka partnered with Wintec, the University of Waikato, Vision College, and local secondary schools to host four international agents representing Thailand, Vietnam and Latin America. During their visit, the agents toured several tertiary campuses, participated in a networking lunch with local international directors, and were taken to visit key sites in and around Hamilton.
The agents engaged with faculty and students along the way to gain insights on the calibre of world-class educational institutions the region has to offer. They also experienced the hospitality and vibrancy of our region, dining in our world-class local restaurants.
The impact of international students extends beyond the classroom. By attracting talent from across the globe, we sow the seeds for future growth and prosperity. Our goal is to foster a welcoming and supporting environment to retain talent and enable workforce development. As the region continues to grow, nurturing a skilled and diverse talent pool is increasingly vital.
Te Waka remains committed to supporting the education sector and promoting the Waikato Region as an attractive destination for international students. By showcasing our world-class education options, fostering cultural exchange, and building talent pipelines, we contribute to the ongoing growth and prosperity of our region.
We are thankful for the financial support from Education New Zealand which enabled us to host the visiting education agents in the Waikato.
