The Hauraki District is in the north-east of the Waikato region and is home to many natural, cultural and historical features, making it a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Opportunities

The Hauraki District Council has identified the hospitality, retail, aquaculture, dairy, and transport industries as the key business opportunities. Beaches, mountains and trails are easily within reach, as the Hauraki District stretches from the beaches of Kaiaua and Pukorokoro/Miranda along the Firth of Thames in Tikapa Moana (the Hauraki Gulf) to the white sandy beaches of Whiritoa. The reclaimed dairy lands of the Hauraki Plains are between the two coasts.

Hauraki District’s vibrant business community includes small family businesses through to large exporters. Its biggest industry contributors to economic growth by GDP are mining, and agriculture, forestry and fishing. Historically, dairy farming has been the principal type of agriculture within the Hauraki District.

Infrastructure

Core infrastructure in the Hauraki District Council municipality includes water supply, wastewater, stormwater, land drainage and flood protection, and land transport activities (roading and footpaths). The Hauraki District is located at the centre of the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, with key state highways through the District.

Investment Opportunities

The Hauraki Rail Trail is less than two hours away from Auckland, and has proven to be a dependable tourist destination with continual year on year increase in visitors since opening in 2017. The Hauraki District Council has also supported the development of a now sold-out industrial park in the township of Kerepehi.
